  • The American Nuclear Society Fusion Energy Division Technical Accomplishment Award in 2018 for pioneering work on in-situ plasma-material interaction diagnostics and surface chemistry in nuclear fusion devices
  • Member of the 2019 international mission of experts for the advancement of science, technology, and innovation in Colombia (Misión de Sabios) comprised of 46 scientists and experts convened by President Ivan Duque
  • Lloyd and Dorothy Foehr Huck Chair in Plasma Medicine at Penn State University in 2019
  • Department of Energy Office of Science’s Fusion Energy Science Advisory Committee member appointed in 2022
  • The IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS)’s Fusion Technology Award in 2023 for contributions to the field of fusion technology including discoveries related to the interactions of fusion plasma and low-energy ions with material surfaces as well as the role surface chemistry plays in plasma-material interactions

    At RSSEL we study the interaction of plasma and particle irradiation with inorganic and organic surfaces and interfaces from the nanoscale across the mesoscale to the macroscale. We achieve this by coupling in-situ and in-operando multi-particle and plasma-based modification.
